Dr. Kulkarni is Board Certified in General (Adult) Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.


Dr. Kulkarni has over 20 years of experience as a Board Certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist providing psychiatric consultation and medication management for patients with mental health challenges. Each      patient receives an in-depth patient evaluation that provides the basis for         targeted medical treatment to secure long-term medical stability and an improvement in their quality of life. Dr. Kulkarni works with individuals, couples, families, therapists and schools to coordinate effective treatment. Over the course of his career, Dr. Kulkarni has developed extensive clinical expertise and experience in treating: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Depression, Generalized Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Connie Parr is a licensed Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with over 40 years of experience with child, adolescents and young adults.  She graduated from Aurora University with her BSN and from Rush Presbyterian St Luke's Hospital with her Advanced Practice Nursing specialty.     For the last 15 years she has concentrated her work in the area of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity, Learning Disabilities and Emotional Disorders. She is passionate about the patients that she sees and treats. 

She has been involved with the Learning Disabilities Association sitting both at the local, state and national levels.  She has served on many committees along with being Past President of the Learning Disabilities Association both at the state and the National Level.  She continues to travel across the states giving lectures.  She lives with her husband Dave and two dogs Mia and Molly.  The grandson that they have raised is now 25, but she dotes on her two granddaughters in her spare time.

Kunal Sachdev, Psy. D.

Dr. Sachdev is a licensed Clinical Psychologist, having earned his doctorate from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, IL. He has worked in a variety of settings such as hospitals, higher education, integrated care centers, and outpatient clinics. He also serves as a faculty member in the Psy.D. program at Midwestern University and at the Department of Behavioral Sciences at Rush University Medical Center. 


Dr. Sachdev provides empathic, customized, and evidence -based treatment. His practice of therapy is influenced by psycho-dynamic, interpersonal, existential, and cognitive approaches. He has particular expertise is adult AD/HD, anxiety, identity development, self-esteem, depression, cultural issues, and career concerns.


As a clinician, Dr. Sachdev aims to develop a strong therapeutic alliance with his clients. He is present and accessible to his clients. He has a warm and very down-to-earth style that helps his clients find their voice as they embark on a journey towards empowerment.

Valerie Ball, Psy.D.

West Suburban Behavioral Health

Dr. Ball earned her doctorate from Midwestern University. She has worked in a variety of settings such as integrated care clinics, hospitals, and outpatient centers. She also has specialized training and experience in health and pediatric psychology. Dr. Ball has significant expertise in behavioral therapies, training medical residents, and collaborative healthcare. Dr. Ball currently serves as a faculty member in the Psy.D. program at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. 


Dr. Ball's clinical work focuses on fostering a broad range of evidence-based skills that encourage individuals to live in ways that are consistent with personal values. Her practice of therapy is influenced by acceptance and commitment (ACT), cognitive behavioral (CBT), and dialectical behavioral (DBT) approaches. She has particular expertise and interest in working with youth that struggle with ADHD, anxiety, depression, impulse control, identity development, and coping with life stressors.  


As a clinician, Dr. Ball is committed to providing a personalized, holistic experience that is nonjudgmental. Dr. Ball brings warmth, energy, and humor to her work that is relatable to youth and families struggling to find personal fulfillment and success. 

Martha Angel, Psy. D.

Dr. Martha Angel has been an individual and family psychotherapist since she graduated with her Master's degree over 20 years ago. She graduated with her doctorate in Psychology in 2006.  She has extensive experience working with individuals who have a history of adverse childhood experiences, difficulty regulating anxiety, attention/hyperactivity symptoms, and who present with partner and parent-child relational problems. She also works with youth who have become involved in the Juvenile Justice System. She provides in-home therapy services to these families and youth who are at risk of re-offending due to unresolved trauma. She was the Clinical Supervisor of Arden Shore Counseling Center and trained and supervised Masters level Clinical Counseling and Doctoral Psychology Practicum Students from Rosalind Franklin and Roosevelt Universities, and other bilingual therapist at the Center.


Dr. Angel has been in private practice for over a decade and her treatment approaches include systemic, structural, and cognitive behavioral to facilitate healthy attachment, promote affect regulation, and assist in executive functioning skill development. She is bilingual in Spanish and English and is sensitive and knowledgeable about acculturation issues. 

Kay La Jeunesse, LCPC

Kay offers a calming and gentle approach to clients that enhances their comfort levels and allows for open discussion of problem areas. Together you will investigate coping skills and factors that cause and contribute to their issues. Together, you will investigate coping skills and factors that will diminish symptoms and work toward resolution of the life issues. In the words of one client: "If what I have to say doesn't upset you, then maybe it isn't as bad as I feared."  Mood disorders, autism spectrum disorders, relationship conflicts as well as loss and grief issues are among Kay's treatment specialties.


From early days of Kay's career, she has come to realize that most people are grieving these losses in their lives. Be it a relationship,  a traumatic childhood, the disappointment of not achieving life's goals or an illness; we mourn what could have been and what's gone.


Her 25 year career has provided her with the opportunity to work with clients of all ages and with varying problems and conditions. Her most recent work as a Bereavement Counselor in a hospice setting has allowed her to put into practice her many years of training. 

Pamela Gehant-Smith, LCPC

With over 20 years of experience, Pam has both broad and deep experience helping her clients explore their lives to make powerful and meaningful changes that determine how mental health challenges affect their lives. Pam brings  a unique level of warmth, compassion, energy, and enthusiasm to her clinical work. As a dedicated and supportive professional, she utilizes strength-based,  practical-solution focused treatments such as CBT AND ACT, along with the benefit of alternate healing techniques Which may include mindfulness and meditation.


Changes in life are normal, whether it is unexpected or planned these changes can affect us individually, our families, marriages, careers/jobs, friendships and other parts of our lives.  If these changes have led you to feeling increasingly depressed or anxious, Pam provides counseling to clients that want to understand and minimize how these issues affect their day to day lives. With the goal of finding them long-term, healthy patterns and balance, Pam has enthusiasm to use her training to help each client find relief from unpleasant and unwanted feelings, emotions, and behaviors.

​Mike has over 20 years of experience working with adolescents and young adults in both the private and public sectors. He specializes in mood and anxiety disorders, anger management, relationship issues, drug issues, and academic difficulties. Mike utilizes cognitive behavioral and dialectal behavioral approaches to identify the attitudes and beliefs of his clients that hinder personal growth, while empowering them to achieve success in life. Mike also works as a middle school social worker in the western suburbs of Chicago, providing individual counseling and facilitating a variety of student support groups. Mike’s other professional roles include serving as a field instructor for master’s degree candidates in social work, presenting at Parent University workshops, facilitating district parenting groups, and serving as the social work coordinator for District 204 in Illinois.

Michele Filecia, LCSW

​Michele is a licensed Clinical Social Worker. She began her career providing an array of clinical services to individuals and families at the DuPage County Health Department. Michele has worked in the mental health field for many years, providing treatment for adolescents, young adults, and families on a wide variety of issues including mood and anxiety disorders. She has also supervised clinical staff. In 1995, she developed an extended care program to meet the long term needs of families in the comunity. Michele also works as a school social worker in the western suburbs and has a good understanding of what life skills children and adolescents need to succeed. Michele brings energy and enthusiasm to her clinical work. She is passionate about serving individuals and families who are struggling.

Lauren Byrnes, MS, BCBA

Lauren Byrnes, began her career in Applied Behavior Analysis while living in Michigan in 2004. She started by providing ABA services to a wide age-range of individuals as a behavior technician in several settings including:  homes, schools, daycares, and clinics.

She continued to work as an ABA therapist as she entered undergraduate school. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Loyola University Chicago. During her time as an undergraduate, she participated in conducting research projects in both the psychology and sociology departments.  She was awarded 'Distinction in a Major' for her project on inclusion placements in the classroom setting.

She went on to receive her Master of Science in Clinical Behavioral Psychology at Eastern Michigan University. Lauren completed her intensive practicum experience at Children's Hospital of Michigan - Autism Center.  While in graduate school, she taught undergraduate courses in psychology, conducted research on behavior rates in ABA therapy sessions, and was a co-conference manager for the Behavior Analysis Association of Michigan conference. 
She became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in 2012. She started her career as a BCBA in Kansas City, where she undertook the responsibility to develop and initiate the company's early intervention ABA services program as well as clinically manage 3 different group homes for individuals' with severe challenging behaviors.

In 2013, Lauren moved to the suburbs of Illinois and continued her passion with providing ABA services.  Over the years, she has worked as a BCBA, practicum supervisor, and clinical supervisor.  This is where she discovered her passion and joy in training others (RBTs, practicum students, parents, colleagues, supervisors, schools, and organizations). Through vast experience with using an engagement focused approach to training, it became clear that there was a large need for consistency in the quality of services and supervision.  She became the first Quality Assurance Manager in her company.  In this role, Lauren developed performance management systems, standard operating procedures, staff trainings, documentation systems, and more to increase the quality of training and services being provided.  

All of these experiences has brought her to her latest venture of starting Direct by Design which has the goal of providing  quality ABA services for all families who are in need.

Sarah believes that the relationship between a client and therapist is unique. For the last 18 years, Sarah has worked with individuals and families in a school setting as well as in private practice. She has learned that everyone, even when part of a family system, has his or her own needs that can be met through a therapeutic relationship.

Sarah's approach to working with clients is to meet them where they are. Her willingness to be creative and eclectic, yet solutions-focused, approach are based on your needs and goals. Sarah's specialties include school related concerns such as school refusal, self-esteem, anxiety, executive functioning struggles, and other social emotional factors interfering with school success. In the realm of women's issues, Sarah focusw on work/life balance, stress management, anxiety and depression as well as transitions within relationships.
